Description

Ruby, is an extremely rare gemstone, it comes in several shades of red, from pinkish to purple and even brownish. The red color is due to the presence of chromium, which enhances the color, while the brown shade indicates the presence of iron.

The color distribution is often uneven, mottled or striped. The most valued rubies are those of pure red color with no traces of a shade of brown. Pink stones with lighter or darker traces achieve a lower valus. Rubies are usually sanded with a mixed cut or cabochon cut. Ruby and sapphire are the hardest minerals after diamond. Mohs hardness:9. Due to the very poor cleavage, it is rare for a stone to break.

Since rubies are in great demand, they make beautiful jewelery: rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants or other decorations.

Rubies often have inks, which does not mean that they are inferior in quality, but on the contrary, they prove the authenticity of natural rubies in comparison with very similar looking synthetic stones. Garnet and red sapphire are often confused with ruby.

Star rubies, which give the impression of a six-pointed or three-pointed star, are highly valued. It becomes particularly clear when a stone cut in the form of a cabochon shows characteristic bright lines in its upper part resulting from the reflection of light.

Rubies are prescribed various magical and mystical powers, they strengthen courage, friendship, peace, romance and friendship. It was also believed that you could predict the future based on the changing colors in rubies when it was worn. Burmese wear a ruby as talisman against disease or misfortune. Meanwhile, Hindus believe that the ruby burns with its own inner fire, they call it "the king of precious stones".

Occurrences: Afghanistan, India, Cambodia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Australia, Burma, Kenya, Vietnam.

Ruby in Astrology: Vedic astrology links ruby to the planet of the Sun. Western astrology links it with the zodiac sign of Capricorn, and with the month of July, and with the day of Tuesday. Chinese Astrology links it with the Year of Tiger, Dragon and Dog.

Diamond is the hardest substance found in nature and the most precious gemstone. Its name comes from the Greek word adamas which means invincible, which refers to its hardness and durability. No other stone is as intensely mined and carefully graded as diamond.

Due to the extreme hardness of diamonds, the only substance that can cut and polish them is another diamond.

The diamond is usually in the form of eight-sided crystals, often flattened or, more rarely, in the form of cubes, sometimes with rounded faces.

Diamonds are the most important gemstones, and the weight is given in carats. The word carat comes from the Greek word keration, meaning the seed of the shark.

Occurrences: Angola, Australia, Botswana, Brazil, China, Ghana, Guyana, Guinea, India, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe.
